ERIC (Education Resources Information Center) is the principal database used for finding journal articles and other publications in education and related social sciences.

ERIC provides citations and abstracts and, in some cases, links to the full text of published journal articles ("ERIC journals") as well as unpublished research reports, conference papers, lesson plans, course syllabi, and other materials of interest to educators ("ERIC documents").

What are ERIC Documents?

ERIC Documents are unpublished research reports, conference papers, lesson plans, course syllabi, and other materials of interest to educators ("ERIC documents"). 

The quick way to tell whether a record in ERIC is for a journal article or an ERIC document is to look at the ERIC Number:  if it starts with EJ, it's a record for a journal article; if it starts with ED, it's an ERIC document, as shown below.

Getting the fulltext of ERIC Documents:

The full text of most ERIC documents from 1993 to the present is available as a PDF linked from the ERIC record.  Look for the "Full Text from ERIC" link as shown below.

ERIC documents not available online are available on microfiche at the Libraries Service Center, the library's off-site shelving facility.  They can be requested using the Libraries Service Center request form. 

Request the item by the ED number and if you prefer, the library will scan documents of up to 35 pp. and email them to you.  If the document is longer, Libraries Service Center staff will send the microfiche to the AV Center on A-Level of the Eisenhower Library, where you can use a microfiche reader/printer to view or print from it.

Getting the fulltext of journal articles in ERIC:

To find the fulltext of journal articles, look for the "PDF Fulltext" or "HTML Fulltext" links if available or click the FindIt button, shown below.

The FindIt button will open a new window and show you if the libraries have the journal online or in print, and will give you an option to request the article from another library via Inter-Library Loan.
