Undergraduate Chemistry Laboratory Assignments

Most of the lab assignments in lower division undergraduate chemistry can be answered using the following reference works. The typical assignment (i.e. components of cinnamon oil; or synonym for triphenylmethanol) is an introduction to using a print handbook, usually the Merck Index. Though the answer is important, the real exercise is how to use the print index, and find it in the library. The students are usually assigned to go directly to the Merck Index in print.

  • CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics
