The Story of "Landmarks"
Landmarks of Science was begun in 1966.
- The plan was to microfilm a quarter million pages every year for 10 years.
- By 1976, the project was complete, with 2.5 million+ pages of books available in microform.
Then the editor found more important works to include; hence, Landmarks II was begun.
- By 1990, the total number of volumes and authors issued had doubled.
- Also, articles from historical scientific journals were included.
Landmarks of Science

These two sets are a remarkable resource, containing the full text of books about the history of science from the beginning of printing into the early 20th century.
The main languages are English, French, German, Latin, and Italian, and contemporary English translations are included when available.
These sets include
- first editions of famous scientific works
- translations
- works by less famous scientists
- textbooks
- biographies of scientists
- bibliographies

Note: Although all of our Landmarks are microfiche format, some of WorldCat's records list them as being in another microformat. Ignore that; they're really fiche.
