Ways to Access Full Text

There are several ways to access JHU's online resources.

  1. If you are on campus, make sure that your device is set to be connected to Hopkins wifi (NOT as a guest)
  2. Never pay for anything!  Instead:

Try the methods listed on this page

    Ask your department librarian

    Contact Ask a Librarian:
    --Email asklib@jhu.edu
    --Text to 410-692-8874
--Chat (use the tab on the bottom right of the library home page)

FIND IT

The libraries can get their journals and other materials through several sources.
This is why using FIND IT is the best tool to see ALL of our full text.
You can use any of these ways to find our full text:

  1. Go straight to the FIND IT form and enter the information that you have
  2. On the library home page, go to ARTICLES --> Google Scholar, so that anything you search for will show you the little arrows that lead to FIND IT
  3. Use the FIND IT link that you see in most databases (make sure you're logged in or on Hopkins wifi so that you see them)

Lean Library  (new as of Fall 2021)

This is a browser extension that makes it easy to get to all of your university's online resources, without having to worry about being logged in.

  • To see how to install Lean Library, please look at the research guide
  • Watch the 1.5-minute video on the Guide page 1
  • Guide page 2 -- How to install it
  • Guide page 3 -- A few more screen shots about what to expect

See the instructions on this guide's Google Scholar + Google Books page.
Zotero's extension for Chrome
  • Zotero is a free software for managing references
  • Zotero has a free Google Chrome extension, which appears on Chrome as a little clickable icon
  • To save papers to Zotero directly:  clicking the icon saves the citation data (e.g. journal, authors, title) and the PDF
  • Zotero also allows export as a Bibtex file, which is useful when writing papers with LaTeX
  • Once PDFs are saved to Zotero, just double-click on Zotero to access the PDF directly

Also, the plugin has a “reload via proxy” option -- this redirects articles as if you were accessing it through the library website, which makes it much easier to find articles quickly.

Johns Hopkins VPN Resource Center
  • Students and anyone else who is not JHU faculty or staff must request access to VPN
  • "Pulse Secure is now owned by Ivanti and the client is now called Ivanti Secure Access Client"
  • The icon has changed to this:

Logging in through my.jh.edu will NOT do what you need.

  • This may appear to work:  IF you go through the database list or a FINDIT page, my.jh stores a credential on your browser that will send you through EZproxy or SSO (single sign-on) without having to log in again through the JHED ID login.

  • But if you go DIRECTLY to the site of a database, newspaper, or other that costs money, you wil not get access.
