What's New

Recent Spanish additions to rare books at the Sheridan Libraries, including new titles in our very important Avant-garde Collection:

  • SED. Poesia, Filosofia, Arte.1944 to1946). A complete run of the 7 issues of the Argentine Surrealist journal, under the editorial direction of the noted poet and visual artist Osvaldo Svanascini, with prose, verse, and visual imagery by an array of both Latin American and European writers and artists.
  • Saint Theresa of Avila. Siete meditaciones sobre el Pater Noster. Esclamaciones o  editaciones del alma a su Dios. Avisos para sus monias. Por la S. Madre Teresa de Jesus. Rare 17th century edition of 3 works, originally printed in 1585, 1619 and 1621.
  • An anonymous and enigmatic Jazz Age reverie: a book of print, manuscript and photography, presumably unpublished. Spain, c.1920s. Contents:12 mounted photographs in an archetypal art deco style, rich in decadent symbolism, along with printed text with calligraphic manuscript that consists of short passages in Spanish prose and conjures up a twilight world of cabaret, dance, theater, and sensuality.Titles of the individual sections include ‘Momento Español’, ‘Mariposa de noche’ and ‘Fin de Fiesta’.
