Cells and Molecules
The Biological Sciences guide has more information about everything Biology.
Here is the list of all biology-related databases.
- BIOSIS Previews is the major database for the life sciences
- Bergey's ManualThis link is for all of the volumes that we have, both print and online, sorted by date with the most recent first.
- BioCyc Database CollectionThis collection of Pathway/Genome Databases (PGDBs) gives a reference on the genomes and metabolic pathways of thousands of sequenced organisms. The BioCyc databases are generated by software that predict the metabolic pathways of completely sequenced organisms, predict which genes code for missing enzymes in metabolic pathways, and predict operons. BioCyc also integrates information from other bioinformatics databases, such as protein feature and Gene Ontology information from UniProt. The BioCyc website provides a suite of software tools for database searching and visualization, for omics data analysis, and for comparative genomics and comparative pathway questions.
- ProkaryotesThese books are about the known prokaryotes. This list is sorted from newest to oldest volumes, and includes the first ONLINE edition, which is the 3rd edition of the classic "The Prokaryotes" series.
The NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information, at the National Institutes of Health) has many databases related to human health, genes, genomes, proteins, and more (scroll down to NCBI Databases).
Look below for links to some well-known catalogs of genes and disorders.
- Online Mendelian Inheritance in ManCatalog of human genes and genetic disorders
- OMIA: Online Mendelian Inheritance in AnimalsCatalog of inherited disorders, other single-locus traits, and genes in more than 200 animal species (other than humans, rats, and mice). [from U. Sydney, Australia]
- KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes)Genes, diseases, ligands, chemicals, drugs, pathogens, and much more.
- ProteomeSearch genes, proteins, pathways, miRNAs, diseases, and drugs.
