Printer Locations
by Carolyn Vargas-Hubner (2025)
Location | # of machines | Functionality |
Gilman Hall: Reading Room | 1 | Print/Copy/Scan |
BLC | 3 | Print/Copy/Scan/Color |
MSE Library Annex | 3 | Print/Copy/Scan/Color |
For alternate paper sizes, direct patrons to the DMC.
Note from Steven:
While the BLC and Reading Room printers are TECHNICALLY a part of the library, I want to make it a rule that we do NOT go to BLC or the Reading Room to troubleshoot printer issues directly. If someone is struggling to print, assist via the phone or offer to print for them here.

No Paper
There's ALWAYS paper in the printers. There are four trays that are filled daily, so unless a maniac prints a book shelf's worth of books, there is always paper in the printers. What the 'No Paper' error means is that the printers only have Letter size (8.5 x 11).
A patron might not always be aware that the doc they're printing isn't a standard sized doc, and the easiest solution to this issue is to have the patron print again, but from the print room PC, and to make sure that they specify their paper size to Letter.
If this still doesn't work, just print the doc for them by having the patron email the doc to mselservicedesk@gmail.com.
Note from Steven.
Don't offer to print immediately. Most patrons don't abuse this service, but I'd rather patrons know how to fix the issue themselves first.
Paper Jams
Some compartments of the printers are locked, and can only be accessed by select staff. No one in Access Services are these select staff. To resolve this issue, summon Albert from the mailroom. Just tell him that there's a paper jam in one of the upstairs (or BLC) printers.
If it's the weekend or evening shift, just shoot Steven an email. Not a text. He'll deal with it on his next working day.
Scanning is free and available to all users on all MSE and BLC print rooms.
Step-by-step instructions are posted at the machines.
NOTE: Even though the service is free, patrons will need to have money on their J-Card or print-card for the printers to activate.
You may use the copy card in the Service Desk drawer (but make sure to ask for it back).
