The "Processing/Data" green light will be on
Press "Status Monitor" button on the left
Highlight the job on the screen
Press "Details" on-screen button
Press "Resume" on-screen button
Select alternative paper tray (2, 3 or 4), and hit OK

Job will print!

Cost
  • $0.07 black and white page (single or double-sided)
  • $0.20 color page (single-sided)
  • $0.40 color page (double-sided)
Cash
  • Cash-only patrons must purchase print card from Service Desk.
  • Denominations of $2, $5, $10.
  • The card will cost an additional $1.00, so patrons who purchase the $2 card will have $1 worth of copying on it and so on.
Credit
  • JCard - Can add credit to Homewood JCards only; patrons from the Medical School need to purchase copy cards.
  • Copy Card - For non-Hopkins affiliates and patrons without a Homewood JCard.
    • Cards can be purchased from the three VTS machines in the Library using a credit card. Two are on M-level and one is in the BLC in the B-level print room.
    • The card costs $1.00 so patrons who purchase the $2 card will have $1 worth of copying on it and so on.
    • After the payment is inserted into the VTS machine and the card pops out, the card immediately needs to be swiped or inserted in order to have the money added to it, otherwise the card is worthless.
  • Departmental Copy Card - Found in Service Desk drawer. Contact scallej1@jhu.edu if out of funds.
Refunds
  • Before offering a refund, first offer to print the job on the Workroom printer. If for whatever they are in need of a refund, refer them to Facilities and Management down at A-Level.
  • Cannot be used for dining dollars
  • Cards can also be used for:
    • vending machines around campus (including in the library)
    • laundry

You can call Support Services (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm) or the IT Support Services Help (evenings & weekends) to report printer problems. Listed below are common printer problems.  You can try to fix the problem yourself.

Problem Resolution
Patron lost print job Print the document from the Information Desk printer. If the printer did not jam, but just never printed the patron's job, please fill out a service request to report it (see Problems tab for instructions).
Printer display is frozen Try cancelling the job from the display menu, and if that does not work, manually shut down the printer.
"User blocked" message

 Printer indicated on error message needs to be restarted.

Orange error light asking for a strange paper size (for 11x17 or jams, see below)

Press "status monitor" or "systems monitor" button (on the display screen, or to the left of display). Select unprinted job, then resume it; choose paper tray with paper in it, and press OK. If the job still does not print, please cancel it and print at Information Desk.

Printer jammed Do what you can to unjam it, then call Support Services at 6-8338 or, on Saturdays and Sundays and Monday through Wednesday nights, call John Schweitzer. If this happened on a night or weekend without John, please fill out this form (use JHED mburri1) and put the "out of order" sign on the printer.

 

Scanning is free and available to all users on all MSE and BLC print rooms.

Step-by-step instructions are posted at the machines.

NOTE: Even though the service is free, patrons will need to have money on their J-Card or print-card for the printers to activate.
You may use the copy card in the Service Desk drawer (but make sure to ask for it back).

 

SCANNING INSTRUCTIONS

Scan and Send (to e-mail)

  • Swipe your J-Card, choose “Scan and Send” shortcut at the top of the screen
  • Choose “New Destination”
  • Choose “E-mail” -> choose “E-mail address”
  • Use on-screen keyboard to enter address. NOTE: @ symbol is in the right lower part of the keyboard
  • If necessary – change Options on the right side of the screen
  • Green LED will light up in the big green “Start” button on the panel, indicating the machine is ready to scan; press the “Start” button to begin
  • Press “Start” button to scan every additional page. NOTE: if you use Automatic Document Feeder, all pages will scan at once, and the file will be sent out
  • When finished scanning, choose “Start Sending”. NOTE: Scan job will be broken in 10MB parts, to allow for size restriction placed on many e-mail services
  • Logout when finished

 

Scan and Store (to USB drive)

  • Plug in your USB drive – the jack location is marked by pictogram:  
  • Swipe your J-Card, choose “Scan and Store” shortcut at the top of the screen
  • Highlight your USB drive on the list of media
  • Choose “Scan” – change Options as necessary on the next screen
  • Green LED will light up in the big green “Start” button on the panel, indicating machine is ready to scan; press the “Start” button to begin
  • Press “Start” button to scan every additional page. NOTE: if you use Automatic Document Feeder, all pages will scan at once, and file saved
  • When finished scanning, choose “Start Storing”
  • Remove your USB drive, choose OK to return to Pharos screen
Single-sided By default, all print jobs will print on both sides of the paper (Double-sided). To print on one side at a time, do the following:
  • Open the “Print” or “Print Setup” in your program (usually found under the File menu);
  • Select “MSEPrint on Air” as the printer
  • Under “Setup” or “Finishing”, choose One-sided or Single-sided printing.
Color
  • Select “MSEL Color A level on AIR” in the Print Settings then print.
  • Once the print job is sent, go to the A-level printer to pay and receive your print.

The machines for adding credit to JCards and to Copy/Printing Cards. They are in the photocopy center on M and in the BLC. If someone needs to add cash to their JCard, they will need to go to the Wyman Park Building.
