Group Study Rooms

Locations marked as "GS" on library map; click "Group Study Seat Count" at bottom of box for more info. Reservable with JHED ID for up to 4 hours, up to 24 hrs in advance. While Support Services supplies chalk and erasers for these rooms, they will supply us with a few boxes of chalk to distribute to students who need them. If Support Services is closed & more chalk or erasers are needed, call John Schweitzer. Read about group study policies.

Note: Non-group study rooms such as 2030/2040, 4040 & 5015/5017 cannot be reserved by non-library staff.  Students are allowed to use the rooms when they are not being used for instruction (a daily room calendar informs users of reservations). If a Hopkins affiliate wants to reserve the room, tell him or her it is at the discretion of library staff and have the individual email Heidi or Margaret.

Long-Term Lockers

Lockers are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis to any active JHU student. Students can reserve one locker at a time by

Day Use Lockers, BLC

100 lockers in the BLC, 20 on each level, are available. The lockers contain outlets so people can recharge their devices. The lockers are for 24 hour use only. They will  be cleared out every morning at 6am and materials left in lockers will be taken to Support Services.  Materials are normally left in Support Services until the Friday morning of the week they are found, when they are then transferred to the Lost and Found division of Campus Safety and Security.

Additionally, 20 lockers located by the Special Collections Reading Room are for Special Collections researchers only during Special Collections department hours. Library users are permitted to use the lockers when Special Collections is closed.  These lockers do not contain outlets.

If a patron has a problem accessing their locker, and neither Janet Matthews nor John Schweitzer are available, please refer him/her to the security guard at the B-level Brody Learning Commons entrance.

Graduate Student Assigned Work Stations

  • If anyone inquires about getting an assigned work station, send them directly to the Support Services Office on A-level.  Note that there are no available work stations, so names are being placed on a waiting list.

Offices

Offices in the library are also given out at the discretion of the academic department. The Library is not responsible for assigning offices.

Library Event Space Policy

For student events in MSEL, BLC and The HUT, contact: Ryan Murphy (murph32@jhu.edu), Facilities Admin, MSEL A-level

The Peabody Library is a popular location for events and weddings. Please refer the patrons to their website or they can call 443-840-9585.

Technology classrooms and other teaching spaces within the BLC and MSE Library can only be reserved by library staff. The primary purpose for those rooms is library instruction. Refer them to Academic Technology Facilities

However, you may give them Margaret Burri's contact info if ATF does not meet their needs or if a student group needs a room for a one-off meeting.

Policy Change

Effective July 1st, 2016, we are no longer holding items found in the library. Any items left in the library (including in lockers overnight) will be placed in a secure bin and picked up daily by Campus Police for transport to Central Lost & Found. If patrons ask you where the Lost & Found is located, please do not direct them to Support Services.  Instead, please advise them that they may look for their items at Central Lost & Found, located within the Campus Safety & Security Office at 3001 Remington Ave.
